Kids have so many creative business ideas. Sometimes these ideas can be very lofty. For example, initially, Sean wanted to sell ice cream. I wasn't quite sure how to make that happen. So we considered things he was passionate about, with drinking hot chocolate at the top of the list. I didn't want to discourage his desire to start a business; I just wanted to make sure his business venture was something we could accomplish.
One day we'll revisit ice cream making, but for now, he's having fun designing mugs and drinking hot chocolate while learning about business.
Here are some of the business ideas we brainstormed and that kids aged 5 -12 can start:
-
Homemade crafts: Kids can create and sell their own homemade crafts like bracelets, keychains, or slime.
-
Gardening: Kids can grow their own fruits, vegetables, or herbs and sell them at a local farmer's market or to neighbors.
-
Baking: Kids can bake cookies, cupcakes, or other treats and sell them at school events, local fairs, or to neighbors.
-
Pet-sitting and dog-walking: If your kid loves animals, they can offer to pet-sit or dog-walk in your neighborhood.
-
Lawn care: Offer to mow lawns, rake leaves, or do other yard work for neighbors for a fee.
-
Car Wash: Offer to clean cars in your community.
-
Social media management: If your kid is tech-savvy, they can offer their services to manage social media accounts for small businesses or individuals.
-
Tutoring: If they excel in a particular subject, they can offer tutoring services to students who need help.
-
Lemonade stand: A classic summer business, a lemonade stand is a great way to learn about entrepreneurship, marketing, and customer service.
With creativity and determination, there are many opportunities for kids to start their own businesses and gain valuable skills and experiences.
